Friends of the Weimar Public Library will host author, James Brasher as part of its Texas history series of authors on Friday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Weimar Public Library.
In “11 Days on the Colorado: The Standoff Between the Texian and Mexican Armies and the Pivotal Battle Unfought”, Brasher, a native of Weimar, investigates the time of the Texian army’s encampment on the Colorado River and focuses on General Sam Houston’s situation there.
Unlike other books on the subject, the focus in Brasher’s book concentrates on the Texian army’s movement in our area in March 1836 between the fall of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.
From the time of the Texian army withdrawal from Gonzales to Houston’s unexpected order to retreat to the Brazos, the general’s mindset is scrutinized, and Brasher offers some justifications for Houston’s decisions.
This insightful glimpse of these particular events provides the reader with a look at the events of that period from a different perspective.
Brasher holds an advanced degree in geology and has worked for decades in the oil and gas industry and 16 years in groundwater conservation. He is the author of technical papers on subsurface geology and a magazine article that was a forerunner of this book.
His wife, Amanda Danning, is a nationally recognized sculptor and artist, provided the book’s illustrations.
Books will be available for sale, and both Brasher and his wife will be available to sign books after the presentation.
Please RSVP to the library at 979-725-6608 to reserve your seat for this free presentation.
