On Thursday, Oct. 17, Weimar Police Department Chief Mark Jameson presented two Weimar citizens with Citizen’s Commendation Awards.

Weimar native, Michael Krhovjak and business owner, Jesus Martinez displayed acts of heroism in September during a warrant arrest.

The commendations read as follows: “This recognition is hereby awarded to Michael Krhovjak and Jesus Martinez for an outstanding act involving a potential risk to your personal safety. This award is for your quick and unhesitant reaction to an officer struggling with a combative subject.”

On Sept. 13, Corporal Maier made contact with a subject in the parking lot of 200 S Eagle, who had an outstanding warrant through Colorado County.

On that day, Krhovjak and Martinez noticed Maier attempting to restrain a subject in the parking lot. Krhovjak and Martinez did not know at the time that the subject had an active warrant and a history of violence toward law enforcement.

What Krhovjak and Martinez did know was that the officer was dealing with a combative subject.

Krhovjak and Martinez could have easily turned their heads, as many do in this day and age, but Krhovjak and Martinez chose to do the opposite. It is not every day that a citizen will take a stand against crime and do something about it.

Krhovjak and Martinez bravely chose to take action and make a difference. Their assistance to law enforcement in Weimar is applauded.

On this day, Oct. 17, the Weimar Police Department salutes Krhovjak and Martinez for a job well done.

Congratulations to these two individuals, the WPD applauds you.
