Eagle Lake Remembers

What is more fun than sharing memories and stories from high school days recalling our formative years and magical moments?

The Reunion of ELHS classes from the years 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962 took place in the newly renovated historic building we once knew as the Boothe Feed Store which sold agricultural supplies.

The building brought many memories and has now been reopened as “The Rez 1908,” by Glen Janow as a special events venue with regular food and bar openings. Janow welcomed the alumni and told them about the building’s history. The group agreed that it was an excellent gathering place.

The reunion began at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, with visiting, lunch, and a program. A general greeting was given by Mark Anderson, with an introduction of Janow and remarks. A Welcome from Jeanette (Miculka) Goodwin followed, with Mary Agnes (Dromgoole) Grissom of Wharton reading the History.

A remembering of special moments during these class years was read by Dolly (Stiles) Korenek of Houston. Class members participated. A memorial table remembering deceased classmates paid tribute to their importance to these classes and to our friendships.

After a prayer of Thanksgiving was read by JaNeille (Anderson) Etheridge a delicious lunch was served with much laughter, memories and conversation. Eighteen former students and thirteen guests were included in the group of 31. Attendees admitted that “while we don’t look quite the same as in high school, the excitement of those formative years will be with us always, as will our friendships.”

The group recalled a time of being happy with life, and able to cope with most anything in a time when we honored our school, our friends, our rules, obeyed our parents, respected our teachers, knew our neighbors, loved our town, and valued our education at Eagle Lake High School under the banner of black and orange and the Eagle Lake Eagles.
