Mounted patrol headed to area for rodeo support

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Junior Mounted Posse is paying a visit to the area Jan. 14 to encourage support for the upcoming Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Junior Mounted Posse is paying a visit to the area Jan. 14 to encourage support for the upcoming Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The junior mounted posse, now in its 70th year, will visit the Colorado County Courthouse, 400 Spring St., Columbus, at 9:30 a.m., followed by appearances at 11:30 a.m. at Weimar City Hall, 106 E. Main St., and 3:30 p.m. at the Lavaca County Courthouse, 412 N. Texas St., Hallestville.

“Please join us along our path as we deliver proclamations to our surrounding counties, personally inviting them to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,” the group announced in a prepared release.

The livestock show and rodeo, now in its 91st year and benefiting area youths through scholarships, is Feb. 28-March 19 at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Officials said it is the largest livestock exhibition on the planet.
