INDUSTRIAL COBRAS 28, RICE RAIDERS 21
The Rice Raiders dropped to 2-2 on Friday night after their loss to Industrial by a score of 28-21.
The Raiders defense continues to play at a high level while their offense is starting to struggle a little bit.
Defensively the Raiders defense did what they normally do, they played aggressively, had good coverage in the secondary and got penetration at the line of scrimmage. They run into trouble when the offense starts to struggle though because that puts them out on the field longer and wears them down quicker.
The defense helped keep things close and gave their offense chances to get back into the game. While the offense struggled throughout the game, they were able to string together enough drives to be down by only one score and ultimately came up just short.
Offensively the Raiders have a good balance of rushing and passing with their rushing attack being the stronger of the two as Kordae Johnson continues to develop as a passer. Industrial did a great job of stuffing the Raiders rushing attack and put the ball in Johnson’s hands.
Johnson welcomed the challenge and while the rushing attack has been the stronger part of their offense so far, this season, Johnson was not scared to throw the ball around the yard. He completed 19 of 31 passes (61%) for 240 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
D’Neriyan Fuller was Johnson’s top target on Friday night catching nine balls for 98 yards and a touchdown. Ta’marion Turner was also involved in the pass game catching five passes for 78 yards, but it was AJ Jenkins who caught the second touchdown that Johnson threw.
The run game struggled against Industrial, but they were still somewhat productive. The likes of Johnson, Dyren Johnson and Robert Bennett carried the ball 18 times for 89 yards and a touchdown.
The Raiders will have a chance to get back in the win column when they welcome in Tidehaven for their fifth district game of the season, looking to pick up a crucial win late in the district schedule.
