The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on Oct. 8 with nine members present. The meeting was opened according to the ritual by President Charlene Muras.
Emails were read by Muras regarding membership, a new auxiliary in Bloomington, the upcoming Nov. 2 district meeting, Wreaths Across America, Smoking Gun Coffee, pins, calendars, raffle tickets and podium books.
There are currently 11 annual members and 22 life members for a total of 33 members.
Dolores Lauck reported that there were four auxiliary members, seven residents and 16 veterans present at Men’s Coffee at Parkview on Sept 20. Jeanette Koenig reported that the high school art contest will start before the holidays and thank you cards to veterans for Veterans Day will be collected from schools. Jeanette Koenig made a beautiful replica of the president’s seal for the Buddy Poppy competition at the next district meeting. Monica Stock reported that she sent seven birthday cards, one sympathy card and attended a funeral. Pam Marshall reported there is a Facebook page for the Weimar VFW Auxiliary 5875. Charlene Muras reminded members to vote on Nov. 5.
Charlene Muras attended the VVA meeting on Sept. 18 and spoke about membership in the auxi liary. Marty Heinrich reported that PP/VOD contests are underway at Weimar schools.
There will be a full meal drive-through/Buddy Poppy drive on Sunday, Oct. 20 for Veterans Day at the Weimar VFW Hall Kitchen. Members are needed to hand out poppies and volunteer in the kitchen. TOT around the track at Weimar High School is on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. Flags, stickers, and patriotic tattoos will be handed out and membership information and action corp weekly information will be available.
The next District 24 meeting will be at the Weimar VFW Hall on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Breakfast will be served so members are asked to attend and bring items for breakfast. Nov.11 is Veterans Day and more information about area observances will be announced as they are received. Wreaths Across America are $17 each and orders are due by the Nov.12 meeting. On Nov. 16 there will be a VVA stew and soup supper at Ammannsville Hall for free until attendees are served with any left available for purchase.
For the Good of the Order, Jeanette Koenig listed the following important dates to fly the US flag: Oct. 13-US Navy birth date, Oct. 14-Columbus Day, Oct. 23-Beirut bombings, Nov. 10-USMC birth date, and Nov. 11-Veterans Day.
The next meeting will be on Nov. 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
