The Columbus Lady Cardinals improved to 9-0 in district play this week after picking up wins over Rice and Industrial.

The Lady Cards strengthened their grip on the top spot in the district standings with backto- back district wins this week.

@ Rice, W, 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-12)

The Lady Cards hit the ground running this week by traveling down the road to take on the Rice Lady Raiders.

The Lady Cards have been playing some really good volleyball as of late and they took the game right to the Lady Raiders as the road team. The Lady Cards dominated the first set 25-7 and then only allowed 23 points against for the rest of the game.

The Lady Cards were riding high and feeling good heading into their second game where things got a little bit tougher against another district rival.

@ Industrial, W, 3-2, (25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-8)

The Lady Cards second game of the week was also on the road against Industrial on Friday night and what a game it was.

The match started with the Lady Cards doing what they do best and picked up a win 25-21. In the second and third set the Lady Cards offense faltered and could not even muster up 20 points in either of those sets.

Against a team like Industrial they will make you pay for not taking advantage of scoring opportunities because they are so strong defensively and transition to offense seamlessly.

The Lady Cards needed a big-time response in the fourth set and thanks to Taylor Morrow, Haper Gerik, and Gracie Schobel leading the offensive charge they evened up the series. The trio came up big again in the fifth set as the Lady Cards’ defense led by Caylie Neisner started to come alive.

The Lady Cards finished out the game in exciting fashion making their ninth win in a row even sweeter because it was a comeback win, the best win in sports.

The Lady Cards will be back in action this week but will be starting their week on the road again in Tidehaven on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Taylor Morrow racked up 25 total kills between the two games against Rice and Industrial.
