The Columbus Cardinals cross-country team traveled to Yoakum to compete in the district meet on Monday, Oct. 7.

The Lady Cards and the Cards both had great outings with both groups posting very respectable times.

Starting with the girls race they were led by Chloe Ross who came in 10th place with a recorded time of 13 minutes and 39 seconds. 17 seconds later Ross’ partner in crime, Kaylea Foster, crossed the finish line with a time of 13 minutes and 56 seconds to come in 13th place.

The next duo of Lady Cards across the finish line were Madison McRee and Lexi Kulhanek in 14th and 32nd place respectively. McRee posted a time of 14 minutes and two seconds, so she was not too far behind Foster and then Kulhanek recorded a time of 15 minutes and 19 seconds.

Elana Rios was the last Lady Card across the finish line in 43rd place with a recorded time of 17 minutes and 40 seconds.

The boys’ team also had a great outing in Yoakum with all five runners finishing the race in 25 minutes or less. Christian Martinez was the first Cardinal to finish, and he had a time of 19 minutes and 44 seconds to come in 11th place.

Next was Elijah Owen and Zeyon Ramirez who came in 13th and 28th place respectively at the district race. Owen finished with a time of 19 minutes and 59 seconds while Ramirez finished with a time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds.

The final Cardinal duo to finish the race was Will Fitzgerald and Keegan Escamilla in 31st and 34th place. Fitzgerald had a time of 22 minutes and nine seconds, and Escamilla had a time of 22 minutes and 45 seconds.

The Columbus crosscountry team now set their sights on the regional meet where they will be looking to earn a spot in the state meet.
