The Rice Raiders have won the cross-country district championship with two of their runners earning medals.
The boys’ team for the Raiders has been on a great stretch of strong performances and this meet was no different.
Payton Englebrecht was the first Raider across the finish line in first place with a time of 17 minutes and 14 seconds. Right behind him, finishing 16 seconds later, was Jael Valles Serrano in second place with a time of 17 minutes and 30 seconds.
The next duo of Raiders to cross the finish line was Hayes Dingler and Jake Morales in 4th and 5th place respectively. Dingler recorded a time of 18 minutes and 37 seconds while Morales had a time of 18 minutes and 39 seconds.
The final two Raiders across the finish line were Victor Flores and Joe Luke Morales with times of 20 minutes and 46 seconds and 20 minutes and 52 seconds. Flores came in 22nd place and Joe Luke Morales came in 23rd place.
With these strong times in the race the Raiders were able to hoist the District Championship.
In the girls race the Lady Raiders were led by Lexi Rangel who came in 26th place with a time of 14 minutes and 33 seconds. Next was a trio of Lady Raiders across the finish line were Priscilla Morales, Taylor Eichelberger and Aileen Valdivia.
Morales finished with a time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds, Eichelberger recorded a time of 15 minutes and eight seconds and Valdivia posted a time of 15 minutes and 23 seconds.
Fallan Wied, Leanna Rangel and Adela Suarez were the next Lady Raider trio across the finish line. Wied had a time of 15 minutes and 40 seconds. Rangel had a time of 18 minutes and 56 seconds, and Suarez had a time of 19 minutes and 59 seconds.
The Raiders now set their sights on the regional meet where they will be looking to punch their ticket to the State meet.
