The Rice Lady Raiders’ struggles on the volleyball court continued this week as the rut they are in has extended to seven games.

The Lady Raiders played Columbus and Palacios this week dropping both games in three and four sets respectively.

Vs. Columbus, L (25-7, 25-11, 25-12) The Lady Raiders started their week off by taking on their cross county rival the Columbus Lady Cards on their home court.

The Lady Cards are usually a hard but competitive game for the Lady Raiders, so this one was going to be no different. The game started with a tough loss in the first set that saw the Lady Raiders score only seven points.

The next two sets were not much better in terms of offensive output where they mustered up 23 points total. They are struggling to find a rhythm with a offense that was scoring at will early on in the season.

Whether it’s a confidence issue or something else that needs to be fixed, they have to find a way to fix these issues to get back in the win column.

@ Palacios, L, 3-1

This one hurt, because the lone district win on the season for the Lady Raiders is against Palacios and now Palacios picked up their first win in district by beating the Lady Raiders.

There’s obviously something wrong with the Lady Raiders, they just aren’t playing with the same fire and excitement that they had at the beginning of the year. A lot of people were changing how they were talking about the Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team but now they are reverting back.

There’s no real answer that can be given other than from the top down they have to be better. From coaching to the execution on the court by the players to how they all interact in the locker room and at practice.

This team is too good to be dropping games like this, it’s the district schedule and teams are bringing their best each and every night. The Lady Raiders can compete with all the teams in the district too, they pushed Columbus to the brink not that long ago in tournament play.

They are still that same team, but something is missing, and it is stopping them from surging up the standings and making a name for themselves like they can.

The Lady Raiders will be looking to bounce back against Industrial on Tuesday, Oct. 15, where they hope to collect their second district win of the year.
