WEIMAR WILDCATS 41, GANADO INDIANS 0

The Weimar Wildcats football team lost their first district game of the season 41-0 to Ganado on Friday, Oct. 11, in Ganado.

The loss is most definitely not a pretty one, but it raised a lot of questions for the Wildcats after being shutout for the second time this season.

Offensively the Wildcats amassed a total of 168 yards with their rushing attack accounting for 127 of those yards. The offense never really got going in this game and had a lot of stalled drives which kept their defense on the field for longer periods of time and Ganado just wore them down.

The shutout loss to Ganado raised a few questions and one of them is obvious.

Everyone knows that Weimar is going to run the ball, it’s no secret at this point and the teams that know that best are the ones in their district. They know the Wildcats are going to come out and run the ball down their throat.

Ganado did a great job of getting to the football Friday night and getting the ball carrier on the ground. They held the Wildcats to only 2.8 yards a carry, there is only three downs before a decision has to be made to punt and in those three plays the Wildcats are getting only six yards, so they are facing a 4thand 4 almost every drive.

So now opposing defenses learned, stop the run you stop the Weimar offense. Rice did it and now Ganado has done it too this season.

That makes the question that arose about this team revolve around the passing game and the lack of it. The initial answer is, Huxton Kloesel is a defensive back, punter, punt returner and the quarterback for this team.

He wears a lot of hats and brings a ton of value to the team, so to not want him dropping back to pass every other play to keep him as healthy as possible is understandable. Can’t blame the Wildcats for wanting to keep one of their key leaders upright as they dive deeper into their district schedule.

But with the offense struggling like it is and the losses starting to pile up, it may be worth a shot to see what the pass game has to offer for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, when they welcome Bloomington to Weimar for their third district game of the year.
