The Weimar Ladycats impressive cross-country season adds an exclamation point to it by winning the district championship.

The Ladycats won the 28-2A District CC Title with 23 points and five medalists.

MJ Griffin was the first Ladycat to finish the race and earn a medal at the district meet. She walked away with a silver medal, but this was just the tip of the iceberg for the Ladycats.

Shortly after Griffin crossed the finish line her teammate, Aubrey Breska, crossed the finish line. Breska earned third place and a bronze medal for her effort in the race, but once again the Ladycats had more to offer.

The Ladycats already had two medals under their belt, but they wanted to win the big prize known as the District Championship. They were able to accomplish this with their next three runners finishing in the top 10.

Faith Cantwell, Alexa Moreno and Tate Griffin finished the race in 4th,7th and 9th place respectively which helped the Ladycats surge up in the standings. Olivia Noska and Alazay Moreno finished in 11th and 13th place which only helped their case for the district championship.

The Ladycats also had a strong showing in the Junior Varsity race, claiming all five of the top five spots in that race, collecting another three medals. Addie Olive, Katharina Chaloupka and Karen Martinez collected gold silver and bronze medals respectively and Rayo Rendon and Brooke Ohnheiser came in 4th and 5th place respectively.

The Ladycats will have a big presence at the regional meet coming up in a couple of weeks. Most of the Ladycats qualified for the regional meet and even one of the boys qualified as well.

In the boy’s race Troy Cantwell came in 5th place for the Wildcats making him the only Wildcat to qualify for the regional race.

Weimar will be running in the regional meet on Oct. 20-21 where they will be looking to punch their ticket to the State meet and get their hands on the biggest prize of them all.

Troy Cantwell was the only boy who qualified for the regional meet.
