Ladycats 3-0 in district play

The Weimar Ladycats matched up against two of their district rivals this week and won both of their games.

The Ladycats took on Shiner and Schulenburg this week and it would not have been a week of Ladycats volleyball without a little bit of drama.

@ Shiner, W, 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-20) Thankfully for the Ladycats, their first game this week was drama free against Shiner on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

They went on the road to Shiner and handled their business and picked up their second district win of the year. The first set had some excitement though as they Ladycats needed to score 26 instead of the typical 25 to win the set.

But once the Ladycats had the first set securely in their pocket they came into the second set with some more swagger. They took the game right to Shiner and suffocated them defensively to win the second set 25-14.

The third set was much of the same with the Ladycats offense buzzing around the court and their defense stonewalling any chance Shiner though they had to score. The Ladycats were riding high after they defeated Shiner but the drama that was mentioned earlier was on it’s way.

Vs. Schulenburg, W, 3-2 (25-17, 18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-9) In their second district game of the week, the Ladycats went the distance with Schulenburg. Using all five sets to decide a winner, this game had all the drama and excitement that makes sports special.

The first set saw the Ladycats impose their will and utilize the fact that they were on their home court to their advantage. They came away with the win in the first set with a score of 25-17 and had full control of the momentum of the game.

The problem was Schulenburg is very familiar with the Weimar Ladycats and in the second set they blocked out all of the noise and came out swinging. Schulenburg came storming back in the second set and almost silenced the crowd in Weimar.

After a 25-18 win in the second set Schulenburg came into the third set with even more confidence and pressed on the gas pedal. The Ladycats offense was shelled as Schulenburg collected their second set win of the match with a score of 25-16.

Facing defeat, the Ladycats knew this set was, obviously, a must win, but that can be easier said than done. The set was as tightly contested as it could have been with momentum shifting with every point scored.

The Ladycats emerged victorious with a score of 25-21 and it was onto the fifth and final set. The fifth set is a race to 15 points and the Ladycats were determined to win it, but Schulenburg hung around and kept things close for a little bit but the Ladycats found a late rhythm and finished the set 15-9.

The Ladycats are undefeated in district play so far this season and have two more district games scheduled for next week with the next one coming on Tuesday, Oct. 8, against Flatonia.
