Wildcats 1-0 in District

WEIMAR WILDCATS 27, SCHULENBURG SHORTHORNS 14

The Weimar Wildcats picked up a much-needed 27-14 win over the Schulenburg Shorthorns Friday night in Weimar.

Coming out of their bye week and picking up a win is huge for the Wildcats and the win was made even sweeter given that it was a district game.

The Wildcats offense ran all over the Shorthorns posting a total of 332 rushing yards in their victory over the Shorthorns. They were led by Jerron Fisher who carried the ball 13 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

Derreon Johnson had a strong game, carrying the ball 18 times for 78 yards, Zack Norrell carried the ball 11 times for 41 yards and Huxton Kloesel got in on the fun with four carries for three yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats’ offense was efficient and made the plays they needed to in order to score and win the game. Their district rival Schulenburg had no answers for the Wildcats’ rushing attack and Weimar was able to pick up their second win of the season because of it.

Weimar opened the scoring in the first quarter and carried a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. Schulenburg answered the Weimar score with one of their own, but Fisher found the endzone before halftime for the Wildcats giving them a 14-7 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats kept their foot on the gas in their third with another score to make it 20-7 heading into the fourth. Both teams score in the fourth which made the final score 27-14.

Defensively the Wildcats played phenomenally shutting out their district rivals in two of the four quarters in Friday’s game. This allowed the offense to settle into the game a little bit easier and really sink their teeth into the rushing attack.

Drew Montgomery, Brandon Luckey and Buck Bujnoch all made big impacts on the game for the Wildcats on the defensive side of the ball. The trio of Wildcats imposed their will and because of it they helped their team to a victory.

The Wildcats will be on the road for their next district game when they travel to Ganado on Friday, Oct. 11, looking to pick up a second district win in as many games.
