SAS SAINTLY NEWS

Thanks to all that supported our book fair and made it an even bigger success than last year’s! The SAS library receives 20% of total purchases in credit (over $850). Librarians Joan Hill and Kerry Pflughaupt will use the credit to acquire new books for students to enjoy. SAS also appreciates the Columbus KCs and Catholic Daughters for donating proceeds from their drive-thru meal and dessert sales last Sunday! Monies earned from the sales of over 700 tickets will help fund special projects at SAS.

Junior High teacher Danette Cantu got “pied” by 5th grader Samuel Gonzales at last Friday’s pep rally. Students put the most money in her jar so she was the lucky recipient of a sweet treat to the kisser! Funds raised go to the SAS Angel Fund and the winning teacher’s classroom expenses.

This year’s Mini Cheerleaders also made their debut at the pep rally. They will be featured during the Lady Saints volleyball matches when SAS hosts St. Rose on 10/7. Both the A and B volleyball teams recently won 2nd place at the Faith Academy volleyball tournaments that were held on 9/21. The SAS Cross Country team will attend the Sacred Heart meet in Halletsville on 10/5.

Each month during the school year, SAS students are focusing on the different character traits that teach students how to be their best selves and treat others as Jesus would. September’s emphasis has been the topic of responsibility. On 9/24 classes wore green and held group discussions and activities that showed how one’s own actions can affect others.

The SAS PTC will meet on 10/8 at 4:15 in the cafeteria. Planning for the annual SAS Halloween Carnival is already in the works and details will be discussed at the meeting. 7th and 8th graders are already practicing for the much-loved Punk-N-Rock performance that brings the carnival’s evening to a close.

The PTC is offering sponsorships for some of the larger Carnival expenses. If your business or family would like to sponsor or contribute toward lights/toilet rentals, advertising, security, or miscellaneous expenses, please call the school office. The Halloween Carnival is our biggest fundraiser that helps to keep our families’ tuition affordable. All contributions are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated!

Look for some familiar Saint faces working at the St. Roch picnic this coming Sunday, 10/6. SAS Junior High students will be volunteering in different areas of the picnic. Head out to Mentz for a day of delicious food, great fun and Christian fellowship!

Upcoming events: St. Roch Church Picnic on 10/6, St. Anthony Church Picnic on 10/13, SAS Halloween Carnival on 10/26. SAS welcomes all to attend Children’s Mass on Fridays at 8:15.
