The Nesbitt Memorial Library hosted a book presentation last Thursday, Sept. 26, for local author James E. Brasher and his new book, 11 Days on the Colorado: The Pivotal Battle Unfought.
The book was officially released on Wednesday, September 11, and touches upon the events that transpired around Columbus during the Texas Revolution, specifically the 11-day standoff between General Sam Houston, who took command of the Texian forces and fled to the Colorado River from Gonzales following the fall of the Alamo, and the Mexican Army.
Brasher, who says the book took seven years to come out; five years to write and two years to publish, felt it was necessary to write about this specific topic, given its lack of representation and the ties it has to Colorado County.
“I was looking into writing something historical and realized that no one had really ever covered this topic thoroughly,” said Brasher. “There are bits and pieces scattered everywhere but nothing cohesive until now.”
Brasher’s wife, Amanda Danning, aided in the creation of the book through her detailed drawings, depicting how some of the events written throughout the book transpired. The author plans on having further book presentations to showcase the book all over Colorado County and beyond.
The book is available for check out at the Nesbitt Memorial Library, as well as for purchase online or from Brasher at a future book signing.
