Columbus Christian Women: A tremendous force of power

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

The CCWO has a reputation for accomplishing really high goals. I suppose one would say they have gathered a large group of community leaders. Their main function this year was a Gala. It was planned to be held at the newly renovated Stafford Opera House. The expectations led many women to buy tickets to the Saturday morning affair. The theme was a phrase from “Alice in Wonderland.”

The event was a luncheon with wonderfully imaginative themes for each tablescape. The event was on the horizon when the edict came down that another venue must be found. Not only was there a passel of guests, the CCWO had arranged for sponsors to be present and each sponsor to have a venue of its own. The search began and as so often occurs, God seemed to lead the way to RO Manor.

The charming new venue is right up Schultz Road. From Mikeska’s, one drives less than a mile east on the feeder and then turns north on Schultz Rd and RO Manor is less than a mile up the road. When RO Manor was discovered and its owners agreed to the Saturday date for the Gala, the CCWO went into action.

There was room for all vendors to be set up around the fringe. The beautiful white background was perfect for the designer tables. The atmosphere was sparkling. The smiles were infectious. The tables’ decor ranged from towering balloons to wild animals from taxidermists. One of my favorites was Alice in Wonderland’s garden. This table was a result of Lori Ann Gobert’s imagination. Another favorite was Terri Brain’s interpretation of underwater fish.

Beth Easterling was one of the Chairwomen for selling the guests’ tables. I think they gave her a gold star. Besides an array of silent auction gifts, the auction presented a great deal of excitement. The auctioneer was Vance Elliott who twisted and turned bids into larger bids. The heroine of the auction was the smiling face of Mary Kay Heffley who won the bid for a trip to London. Special thanks to Mary Kay. All of this is to say, “well done, ladies of the CCWO”, and special thanks to your president, Sharon Johnson.
