The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is the same as on this day last week and is 59 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso metro area are paying the most on average at $2.96 per gallon while drivers in the Brownsville-Harlingen area are paying the least at $2.63 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.22, which is the same price when compared to this day last week and 62 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose to 9.2 million barrels per day, while regional Gulf Coast gasoline stocks fell to 81.2 million barrels per day. This news could lead to price fluctuations on the retail level for gasoline.
“Texas gas prices are 17.5% percent lower when compared to one year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Fuel price averages are expected to remain lower as Autumn begins and the switchover to winter-blend gas gets underway. However, there is a possibility that retail fuel prices could fluctuate as the Energy Information Administration’s latest data indicates an increase in demand for fuel and lower supplies regionally.”
