Lady Raiders split district games

Lady Raiders split district games

The Lady Raiders picked up their first district win of the season but then ran into a talented Hallettsville team.

The two matches resulted in one win and one loss from the Lady Raiders this past week.

Vs. Palacios, 3-0, W (26 24, 25-13, 25-22)

The Lady Raiders started their week on a high note by defeating Palacios in three sets.

This comes after the Lady Raiders lost in three sets on the road to the Columbus Lady Cardinals. That was a tough game for the Lady Raiders, but they started to return to form towards the end of that match.

They were tested against Palacios but were not leaving the game without a win. Palacios and the Lady Raiders found themselves tied at 24 points each and the Lady Raiders gritted their teeth and found the final two points to end the set.

They continued to roll in the second set as their defense played phenomenally on the second set to win 25-13. In the third set, Palacios came back fighting for their lives, but the Lady Raiders stayed cool, calm and collected to come away with a win in the match.

This was the Lady Raiders first district win of the season and looked to match last season’s total by getting their second win against Hallettsville.

Vs. Hallettsville, 3-1, L (25-19, 19-25, 15-25, 23-25) The momentum from the first district win over Palacios definitely carried over into their game against Hallettsville.

The Lady Raiders came out firing on all cylinders, they took the game right to Hallettsville and ended up winning the first set 25-19. The second set mirrored the first set but the roles were reversed with Hallettsville picking up the win 25-19.

With the match tied at a set a piece the Lady Raiders knew the third set was going to be important in the long run, but Hallettsville came out just a little more aggressive. They ended up taking the third set away from the Lady Raiders which set up an exciting fourth set.

The Lady Raiders threw everything at Hallettsvi lle and pushed them to the brink. They gave everything but came up just short by a score of 25-23.

While the loss stings the Lady Raiders are proving they can hang in with these talented teams that are typically high up in the district standings. The season is not over, and the Lady Raiders are still focused on their main goal of making the playoffs.

The Lady Raiders season is scheduled to continue Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they welcome Industrial for a district match in Altair, TX.
