The Columbus Cardinals cross-country team traveled to Anderson High school to compete in the Anderson-Shiro Meet where the girls came in third place.
Out of 11 teams at the meet the Lady Cards were able to come in 3rd place as a team thanks to two runners finishing in the top 15.
Kaylea Foster was the first Lady Card to cross the finish line and she posted a time of 13 minutes and 29 seconds. She slotted in at 8th place in the race and only three spots behind her was her partner in crime Chloe Ross.
Ross finished with a time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds to come in 11th place. They were the first two Lady Cards across the finish line but they earned 3rd place as a team and there were still four more Lady Cards competing in the race.
Madison McRee and Lexi Kulhanek came in 26th and 36th place respectively with times of 18 minutes and 29 seconds and 20 minutes and 12 seconds. Elana Rios was the next Lady Card across with a time of 22 minutes and seven seconds to come in 47th place.
This gave the Lady Cards just enough of an edge to claim third place as a team in the event, something they will look to build on at their next meet.
As for the boys they posted just as strong of a performance with three of their four runners finishing in the top 15. But with only four runners they were unable to make a big impact on the standings.
The first of the boys across the finish line was Elijah Owen in 5th place with a time of 21 minutes and 24 seconds. Next was Christian Martinez and Zayon Ramirez in 9th and 12th place with times of 22 minutes and five seconds and a time of 23 minutes and eight seconds.
Then came John Foster with a time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds to claim 41st place in the 5k race.
Columbus’ cross-country team will try to build off this great performance at their next meet when they travel to Shiner on Saturday, Sept. 28.
