Lady Cards volleyball team sweeps the week

Lady Cards volleyball team sweeps the week

The Columbus Lady Cardinals played two games this week and won both of those game and only lost one set in both games.

They took on Industrial on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and then matched up with Tidehaven on Friday, Sept. 20, in two district games.

@ Industrial, 3-1, W (2325, 25-21, 25-13, 25-18) The Lady Cards started their week on the road against a district opponent, so they were entering a hostile environment.

These two teams are quite familiar with one another, so the first two sets had tons of drama. Industrial was able to edge out the Lady Cards in the first set by two points with a 25-23 final.

Industrial looked to make a statement in this divisional game and pick up back-toback set wins over the Lady Cards. But this Lady Cards team is battle tested and thrives in adversity and they came storming back in the second set to win 25-21.

From then on, the Lady Cards’ offense went to work while the defense shut things down at the net. They won the third set 25-13 and carried their momentum to the fourth with a 25-18 win to close out the match.

With the Lady Cards collecting their second district win of the year the Lady Cards had to quickly reset and get ready for their match against Tidehaven.

Vs. Tidehaven, 3-0, W (25-18, 25-8, 25-13) The Lady Cards wasted no time making their presence felt in their Friday match against Tidehaven.

In the first set the Lady Cards jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Tidehaven was able to make up some ground late in the set but the Lady Cards already sank their claws in.

After a 25-18 win in the first set the Lady Cards flexed their muscles in the second set by not letting Tidehaven reach 10 points. The Lady Cards found their swagger in the second set and closed the book on this match in the third set.

With two district wins in their pocket the Lady Cards went into the weekend on a high note but know there is still work to do.

The Lady Cards’ next match comes against Yoakum on Tuesday, Sept. 24, where they will start their week on the road again.
