City Manager Donald Warschak updated council on the I-10 expansion project and street improvements within Columbus.
Warschak says TxDOT have communicated that construction would potentially begin as early as October depending on “right of way vegetation removal.”
“TxDOT has indicated that the construction will start in a couple of weeks with right of way vegetation removal,” said Warschak. “Once the right of way preparation work is finished the contractor will move offsite and will return after the first of the year to start the heavy construction.”
A pre-construction meeting for the I-10 expansion project was held the following day after council met on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The 2024 street improvements are in “full effect.” According to Warschak, crews have been laying down the groundwork and preparation for the project.
“The paving contractor for the job is scheduled to move on site this week and start paving on Thursday and Friday or earlier,” said Warschak. “The sign vendor has indicated that the traffic control signs we order should be ready for pickup this week. City crews have also been trimming low tree limbs around the city.”
Warschak says pave workers are scheduled to put the seal belt down within the same week as well, west of Milam St., north of Walnut St. and east of Fannin, around the mid-town park area.
