BRENHAM — The 13th Annual Beginning Beekeeping School in Brenham is set for April 1, 2023. Registration is open at tinyurl.com/2023BeeSchool.
The school is open to anyone who is interested in bees. We have classes for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced beekeepers. Last year we had 750 folks at the school.
Our topics range from “Where Do I Get Bees” and “What Do I Buy” to “Raising Queens” and “Harvesting Honey”.
Weather permitting, there will be live bee hives where you can suit up and watch as an experienced beekeeper shows you brood, honey, and maybe even the queen.
The full-day school starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 5:30 p.m. You will be served a full bar-b-que meal with Blue Bell Ice Cream for dessert. Everyone will receive a door prize with the large door prizes being given away at the end of the day.
There will be 70 class openings with approximately 50 different topics being offered by 35 different presenters.
Additional classes will be “Mead 101”, “Healing Effects of Honey”, “The Art of Bee Removal” and “Using Bees for Ag Valuation”. There will even be a live zoom presentation about the Flow Hive with inventor Stuart Anderson from Australia and an extensive class just on Top Bar Hives.
We expect around 35 vendors with lots of bee-related items to purchase.
All of us are aware of how the world has changed. In response, all state and local guidelines and policies in effect will be followed on the day of the school.
Plan on joining us on April 1. Unless you ARE a bee, you WILL learn something!
