The SAS Academic Rodeo Team won 1st place in the Junior High Division at the Colorado County Fair last Thursday, Sept. 12. The team of Mitchell Smith, Joshua Newman, McKinley Wright and Abigail Wolters dominated the championship match with a final score of SAS38, Rice-17, and St. Michael- 5. The Academic Rodeo is sponsored by the Nada Lions Club.
Aside from the Academic Rodeo, many Saints took part in the Fair’s activities last week. While some students showed livestock, others volunteered at the Fair’s Exceptional Rodeo. Several SAS classes also submitted artwork for judging as well. SAS 1st and 2nd graders enjoyed Kids Day at the Fair on Sept. 12, exploring the Ag Tent and viewing the livestock exhibits.
The SAS Ignatius Book Fair begins this weekend after St. Anthony parish masses. The book fair theme is “Fostering Faith, One Chapter at a Time”. It is Christian based, offering something for all ages. The book fair will be open 9/23-9/26, 8-5:30pm, with a late closing on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
The SAS boys Cross country team has been doing well, earning a 2nd place team medal in Navasota on 9/11 and 4th place team medal on Sept. 7 at Coleto Creek. Team members earning individual awards were Kyle Glueck (3rd place, 4th place), Kayden Glueck (6th place, 7th place), and Matthias Walla (12th place, 8th place).
This Saturday, Sept. 21, the Lady Saints volleyball teams will travel to Bellville for a tournament at Faith Academy. On Monday, Sept. 23, they will head to St. Joseph in Yoakum for games starting at 5 p.m.
The Columbus KC Chicken Fried Pork Steak meal tickets for Sept. 29 are still available from any SAS student or the school office. Advance only tickets are $13.00 each.
SAS welcomes all to attend Children’s Mass on Fridays at 8:15.
