The Weimar Ladycats continued to stack up wins after they defeated the Edna Cowgirls in three sets on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The match was consumed by the electric atmosphere as all three sets were decided by 8 or less points.
The match started with the Ladycats in full attack mode by making the most of every offensive opportunity that came their way. Chandley Tolbert had a field day from her outside hitter position securing several kills throughout the first set.
Tolbert impressed in the first set, but her teammates did not let her have all the fun and decided to jump into the action themselves, with the Ladycats receiving scoring and production from multiple spots on the court they won the first set 25-17.
The second set saw the Cowgirls offense come to life and really tested the Ladycats’ defense. Claire Pavlu is making a strong case as one of the best liberos in the district with her defensive skills shining brightly in set two.
Through multiple lead changes, Pavlu helped keep the Ladycats steady and focused on winning the set. The offense began to feed off the defense and shortly after the Ladycats won the second set 25-20 and were heading into the third set up two sets to none.
With virtually all of the momentum, the Ladycats entered the third set with some swagger. They were able to jump out to an early lead and never looked back.
The Cowgirls started to climb back into the game late in the set, but the Ladycats defense was there to slam the door. They executed their defensive scheme to perfection to hold off the late Cowgirls offensive push.
The Ladycats defense bought their offense enough time to find their footing again and they won the third set 25-22.
This was a big win for the Ladycats before they enter the part of their schedule that matters the most. With the start of their district schedule looming in the distance the Ladycats have a few more pre-district games before getting into the meat of their schedule.
Their next game was played on Tuesday, Sept. 17, where they traveled to Fayetteville to take on the Lions.
