The Rice Raider cross-country team traveled to Moulton to compete in the 36th annual Moulton Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Raiders varsity boys’ team hot streak continued as they ended up walking away with second place in the meet.
Leading the charge in the boy’s race for the Raiders was Peyton Englebrecht who posted a time of 16 minutes and 34 seconds. This was good enough to earn him 2nd place in the race with a couple of his teammates close behind him.
Jael Valles-Serrano and Hayes Dingler were in a tight race for third place with Valles-Serrano just barely edging out his teammate. They both finished with times of 16 minutes and 49 seconds, but Valles-Serrano finished .6 seconds before Dingler to award the two athletes 3rd and 4th place respectively.
Jose Briones, Jake Morales and Victor Flores were the next trio of Raiders to cross the finish line coming in 32nd, 56th and 67th place. Briones’ time was 18 minutes and 52 seconds, Morales’ time was 19 minutes and 38 seconds and Flores’ time was 20 minutes and 15 seconds.
Joe Luke Morales, Luke Englebrecht and Lorenzo Castillo were the final trio of Raiders across the finish line coming in 71st, 73rd and 82nd place. Morales’ time was 20 minutes 35 seconds, Englebrecht’s time was 20 minutes and 51 seconds, and Castillo’s time was 21 minutes and 34 seconds.
The boys had another great showing and were awarded second place for their effort but in the girls’ race every single Lady Raider posted a new personal best time.
Lexia Rangel, Taylor Eichelberger and Priscilla Morales led the way for the Lady Raiders in Moulton on Saturday. Rangel’s time was 13 minutes and 31 seconds, Eichelberger’s time was 14 minutes and 39 seconds and Morales’ time was 15 minutes and 19 seconds.
Adela Suarez, Fallan Wied and Leanna Rangel were the last trio of Lady Raiders across the finish line with times of 15 minutes and 41 seconds, 16 minutes and two seconds and 17 minutes and five seconds. Once again, these were all personal bests for these ladies, so a tip of the cap is in order.
The Raiders still have more gas in the tank and are looking forward to their next meet in Round Rock on Friday, Sept. 20.
