The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting last Tuesday, Sept. 10, with eight members and three guests present, Barb Koehn District 24 President, Irene Szwarc District 24 Chief of Staff and new member candidate Kim Kutac.
The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by President Charlene Muras.
Correspondence was read by President Charlene Muras regarding scholarship donation, President’s Special Project and community service.
There are currently 12 annual members and 21 life members for a total of 33 members.
Dolores Lauck reported that the POW/MIA table will be set up for the Men’s Coffee at Parkview on September 20. The new Texas flag was presented to Weimar Elementary School along with a flag-folding ceremony and flag etiquette program. Patriot’s Day poems were sent to schools to be read on September 11.
Dolores also passed out teardrops for members to wear for suicide prevention. Charlene Muras will be making a Buddy Poppy display for the next district meeting that shows the department president’s logo. Monica Stock reported she sent a sympathy card to the family of Darlene Neiser. Charlene Muras reported that at TOT around the track on October 30, she will have membership information and action corp weekly information available. There are calendars, pins and raffle tickets available for purchase and pins that will be distributed to school kid contest winners.
The Charter was draped in memory of member Irene Banse who passed away on August 28. Donations will be made to the National Home in her memory. Members voted to make donations to Texas Suicide Prevention, to Health and Happiness, and to fund the 3 third place winners in the PP and VOD contests.
For the Good of the Order, Sara Bansal reminded members to fly the U.S. flag on September 11 Patriot’s Day, September 18, USAF birthday, September 20, POW/MIA Day, and September 29, Gold Star Family Day, and the 125 VFW birthday.
District 24 President Barb Koehn was complimentary of the Auxiliary, it is organization and activities. She noted that the next District meeting date is changed to November 2 for a half-day in Weimar. She encouraged members to attend the mid-winter meeting in January, a Thursday through Saturday meeting in Corpus Christi.
District 24 Chief of Staff Irene Szwarc loved the energy, positive feelings, and workability with the community of this Auxiliary. She noted with the change in the name of the Auxiliary, the Conductress is now the Conductor.
The next meeting will be on October 8 at 6:00 pm at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen, with an Audit meeting at 5:30 pm.
