The Rice Lady Raiders’ varsity soccer team had some difficulties last week getting their offense to produce chances at goal effectively. Throughout their two games last week, they failed to score a single goal as their opponents found their own success offensively. These struggles led to the Lady Raiders taking a couple of big losses, including the season’s biggest defeat so far.
Rice started their week with a difficult match against district-leading Bay City. The Lady Blackcats had their way with the Lady Raiders’ defense, finding the back of the net 14 times while holding the Lady Raiders scoreless. The 14-0 score line marked the Lady Raiders’ largest margin of defeat this season and their most goals allowed in a shutout defeat.
The Lady Raiders got a better performance later in the week during their game against visiting Wharton. Rice created more opportunities from their offense and slotted home a goal that stood as their only goal of the week. While their defensive results were much better in this game compared to their rout against Bay City, Rice still allowed more goals than they could reasonably handle as they fell to the 4-1 loss.
