Ladycats take down Gonzales

Ladycats take down Gonzales

The Weimar Ladycats have been dominating the tournaments they have been playing in and have carried that over to their regular season to defeat Gonzales in three sets.

The Ladycats were given a break after Rice’s volleyball tournament and came back to game action and did not miss a beat.

The Ladycats opened the game with a 25-12 win over Gonzales with stellar offensive play. The Ladycats snapped into a rhythm early in the first set allowing Chandley Tolbert and Janiyah Coooper to do some damage.

These two from their outside hitter positions took advantage of every opportunity thrown their way. Defensively, Taylor Smith, Jaiya Cook, Skylar Rhodes and Ericka Billeck were a wall at the net.

They did a perfect job limiting the offensive opportunities Gonzales had in the set. This helped keep the offensive momentum churning and the Ladycats were able to come away with the win.

The Second set was a lot closer on the scoreboard with the final score being 25-22. Gonzales came back with a vengeance in the second set with their offense coming out with some fire.

They pushed Weimar all the way to the brink with multiple lead changes, but the Ladycats resolve showed through and they locked up a win in the second set. Being one set away from victory the Ladycats were anxious to close out the game.

The third set was similar to the first set with the Ladycats working perfectly together both offensively and defensively. When there were chances on offense, they capitalized on them and shut down several chances Gonzales had at the net.

They finished the set with a 25-14 win in the third set thus awarding them the win for the game.

With a win in their back pocket the Ladycats will enjoy another break in the action as they are not scheduled to play again until Tuesday, Sept. 17, where they will take on Fayetteville.
