Raiders cross country team on a roll

The Rice Raiders cross-country team is putting together a fantastic start to the season by winning their fourth meet in a row.

The Raiders competed in the Hippensteel cross country meet where they returned home with a fourth, 1st place trophy.

A big reason why the Raiders have been so successful is largely thanks to five of their runners finishing in the top 10. Leading the way was Payton Engelbrecht coming in 1st place in the entire race.

Englebrecht finished with a time of 15 minutes and 25 seconds, but the Raiders were just getting started. Not too far behind Englebrecht were teammates Jael Valles-Serrano and Jake Morales.

Valles-Serrano finished with a time of 16 minutes and nine seconds to come in 3rd place. Morales finished with a time of 16 minutes and 17 seconds to come in 4th place.

The Raiders went on to claim 6th and 8th place, Hayes Dingler and Jose Briones were the two Raiders to claim those spots. Dingler ran a time of 16 minutes and 47 seconds, Briones ran a time of 17 minutes and 15 seconds.

Victor Flores, Joe Luke Morales and Luke Englebrecht came in 14th, 16th and 19th place. With times of 18 minutes and 41 seconds, 19 minutes and five seconds and 19 minutes and 20 seconds.

The Raiders accumulated 22 points in the meet which awarded them first place as a team to win their fourth straight meet.

In the girls’ race Taylor Eichelberger and Suarez Adela came in 7th and 15th place. Eichelberger posted a time of 14 minutes and 39 seconds Adela had a time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds.

The Raiders will continue to work and improve in practice as they look to extend their win streak to five at their next meet.
