The Weimar Wildcats started their season on the road in Boling for week one on Friday, Aug. 30.
The Wildcats struggled to get a stop on defense and the offense could never quite get their footing until later in the game.
Boling’s defense frustrated the Wildcats’ offense as they stuffed the run and did not allow anything through the air. Offensively Boling opened the scoring and held onto a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Shortly after they extended their lead with another touchdown to make the score 14-0. The Wildcats continued to try to establish the run and had four carries to help share the workload.
Derreon Johnson, Huxton Kloesel, Jerron Fisher and Zack Norrell made up the Wildcats’ backfield. Collectively they amassed 159 yards on the ground on 25 carries which is an average of 6.4 yards a carry.
The Wildcats are known to run the ball down team’s throats and Friday was no different. They struggled to find the endzone but seeing how productive the run game was is a positive sign for Wildcat fans.
The Wildcats top rusher was Norrell who carried the ball eight times and racked up 70 yards. Right behind him was Fisher who also carried the ball eight times for 40 yards.
Fisher scored the Wildcats lone touchdown in the contest and while it was not the most productive night for the Wildcats offense it is only game one. They have plenty of time to get the mistakes cleaned up and get back in the win column and there is no doubt that Wildcats Head Coach Wade Griffin is the man to get it done.
The Wildcats have the first blemish on their record, but their season is still moving forward, they’ll have a chance to get their win back on Friday, Sept. 6, when they take on Sommerville on their home field in Weimar.
