Rice Boys win Industrial Cross Country meet

The Rice Raiders cross-country team participated in the industrial Cross Country Meet where the boys team ran away with a victory.

The Raiders ran in three divisions at the meet consisting of the junior varsity boys team and the varsity boys’ and girls’ team.

The boys won the meet thanks to Payton Englebrecht, Hayes Dingler and Jael Valles-Serrano finishing one after the other in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Englebrecht posted a time of 16 minutes and 30 seconds, Dingler had a time of 17 minutes and six seconds.

Valles-Serrano was only two seconds behind Dingler with a time of 17 minutes and eight seconds. Jake Morales and Jose Briones helped extend the Raiders lead at the meet by also finishing in the top 10.

Morales recorded a time of 17 minutes and 44 seconds to claim 6th place for the Raiders while Briones came in 9th with a time of 18 minutes and 20 seconds. Luke Englebrecht was the next Raider across the finish line and with a time of 21 minutes and seven seconds he slotted in at 39th place.

As for the girls’ race Taylor Eichelberger was the first one across the line with a time of 15 minutes and 45 seconds. The next one across was Lexie Rangel in 49th place recording a time of 17 minutes and 57 seconds. Fallan Wied and Priscilla Morales came in 50th and 51st place right behind Rangel.

Wied finished with a time of 18 minutes and 49 seconds and Morales finished with a time of 19 minutes and 35 seconds.

The Raiders are off to a strong start to their season with plenty more excitement on the horizon. They will be able to get some good rest before they host a cross country at Rice on Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8 a.m.
