Columbus girls win Schulenburg meet

The Columbus Cardinals cross-country team competed in the Schulenburg meet where the varsity girls’ team finished in first place.

Led by the dynamic duo of Chloe Ross and Kaylea Foster the Lady Cards cross-country team climbed the standings with ease.

Ross was named an All-Star last year for her running abilities and showed exactly why she was selected during this meet. Ross finished the race in 14 minutes and six seconds, coming in second place.

The time of the runner in first, 14 minutes and five seconds. Losing out on first place by only one second is only going to motivate Ross and with plenty of meets still scheduled for the season Ross will continue to get better.

As for Foster, she crossed the finish line with a time of 14 minutes and 29 seconds. Her time earned her a fifth-place finish which only boosted the Lady Cards up the standings, but they were not the only Lady Cards in this race.

The next Lady Card across the finish line was Madison McKee in 20th place who crossed with a time of 15 minutes and 54 seconds. Next was Lexi Kulhanek in 46th place with a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds with Elana Rios not too far behind in 52nd place with a time of 18 minutes and 35 seconds.

As for the Boys team they were led by Elijah Owen who finished in 5th place for the Cards posting a time of 19 minutes and 33 seconds. Only eight seconds behind Owen was teammate Christian Martinez in 8th place with a time of 19 minutes and 41 seconds.

Both Cards runners finished in the top 10 but did not finish high in the standings because they only had two runners collecting points with their times.

With the Schulenburg meet concluded the Cards look onward and upward as their season continues next week.
