The Alleyton Cemetery Association hosted a joyous retirement celebration for Donald Peikert at Green Grove Baptist Church. The attendees enjoyed a brief program and songs that included: “48 Hour Week,” “Take This Job and Shove It,” “This is the End of the Line” and “Happy Trails to You.” Dinner was catered by Rashauna Fitzgerald.
Mr. Peikert, a volunteer at the cemetery, worked like a paid employee and made improvements to the cemetery. The association is grateful to Donald for paying his dues up to age 100 and recruiting 12 dues paying family members. He also purchased a new entrance sign, had a gate installed at the front of the cemetery and another gate widened so equipment could easily get through.
He frequently mowed the 6-acre cemetery at no cost to the association, cut down bamboo in the cemetery and on an adjacent property, cleared the fence line of weeds and bushes, removed tree limbs after high winds, donated spray, bought paint and painted the benches. Mr. Peikert has done so much for the cemetery that we are unable to list everything.
Theresa Williams, the president presented Donald Peikert with a U. S. Flag that was flown over the U. S. Capitol in Washington, DC, in his honor.
Along with the flag, Mr. Peikert was also presented a Certificate of Authenticity and a Certificate signed by U. S. Senator John Cornyn in honor of his 5 years of dedicated community service to the Alleyton cemetery. Also, Donald was presented a “Congratulatory Letter from Senator Cornyn.
The association thanks all who attended and helped with the celebration to make it a success.
