COLORADO COUNTY FAIR AND RODEO SCHEDULE

Here is a schedule for all things fair and rodeo, including registration openings and deadlines.

Home economics and fine arts show Sept. 12 – 14 Judging divisions: Flower Show/Specimen, Clothing and Needlework, Quilt, Handicrafts, Home Improvement, Baked Goods, Canned Foods, Photography and Fine Arts. Entry fees vary.

Livestock show and sale Sept. 12 – 14

Livestock Exhibit Categories: Market Steers ($10/tag; $20 entry), Commercial Heifers ($10/tag; $20 entry), Bucket Calf ($25 entry), Pen of Two Heifers ($10/tag; $20 entry), Market Hogs ($10/ tag; $20 entry), Market Lambs ($10/tag; $20 entry), Market Goats ($10/tag; $20 entry), Broilers ($20/pen entry) and Fryer Rabbits ($10/pen; $20 entry). Entry deadline has ended, but late entry will continue until Aug. 31 with a $50 entry cost.

Rodeo Sept. 13 – 14

Contests: Bull Riding, Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling And Barrel Racing.

Business ribbon roping Sept. 13 – 14 7:30 p.m. $150 entry fee per team. 10 teams a night with 2 buckles per night. Pre-entry only.

Stick horse race

7:15 p.m. each night, arrive early to register. Open to kids aged five and under. Free entry. Kids must bring their own stick horse.

Junior barrel racing

$40 entry. Ages 18 and under. Five runs total per rodeo performance. One buckle is awarded to the fastest time of all runs. Pre-entry only.

Mutton Bustin’ Sept. 13 – 14

Contestants must be six or younger and weigh less than 55 pounds. $40 cash only entry fee, with a limit to 50 entries per night. Entries are only accepted on the day of the event.

Here is a general day by day schedule of all things fair and rodeo.

Friday, Sept. 6

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Final day for entry forms and fees. Due at Colorado County Extension Office.

Saturday, Sept. 7

Fair Queen Pageants Little Miss/Mister and Jr. Miss Pageants on at 5:30 p.m. with the Jr. Fair Queen Pageant to follow immediately after. Pageants will take place on stage in the Founders Hall.

The 2024 Membership Queen will be crowned on Thursday, September 12. Contestants may sell tickets and memberships to count toward their totals until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11.

Winners must be able to ride in the Fair float in area parades and represent the Fair at Fair events. Parents of winners are required to help pull the fair float.

Registration is open for all competitions until Sept. 1 Sunday, Sept. 8 and Monday, Sept. 9

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, entries accepted at Colorado County Fairgrounds, Founders Hall. Colorado County Ag Complex, 1146 Crossroads Blvd.

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, entries accepted at Colorado County Fairgrounds, Founders Hall. Colorado County Ag Complex, 1146 Crossroads Blvd, except perishable items, see below.

Monday, Sept. 9 Youth livestock judging contest

Livestock Judging Classes: Market Goats, market Hogs, Market Steers, Market Lambs, Breeding Gilts, Breeding Heifers and Breeding Ewes Two question classes will be given. $10.00 per person (scantrons provided) Junior Division: Grades 3-8. Wednesday, Sept. 11 Creative Homemaking Department closed to public 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. Perishable items accepted: pastries, etc. and cut flower/plant arrangements. The judging will be at 10 a.m.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Perishable items may be picked up if marked on top left of tag “pick up”.

Thursday, Sept. 12

9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Seniors Day event. Student Day 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Creative Homemaking Department open to public.

Thursday, Sept. 12

Cornhole tournament, $50 entry fee. On-site registration at 6:30 p.m. tournament starts at 7 p.m.

Line dancing and karaoke by Broken G from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 13

8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Creative Homemaking Department open to public.

Tejano Night featuring: DJ from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. Los Joveros 7 p.m. Los Rieleros 10 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 14

8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Creative Homemaking Department open to public.

3 p.m. Photos for Best of Show and Reserve Best of Show; Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion & Youth High Points. Time may be staggered by divisions.

Parade 7:45 a.m.-8:30 a.m. — Entry check-in, 8:50 a.m. — Judging begins, 9:50 a.m. — Line up for start and 10:00 a.m. — Parade begins.

Important Information

“Vegas Lights and County Fair Nights” – entries are encouraged to decorate in red, white, and blue. During the parade, leave a generous amount of space between floats/vehicles. Do not crowd the entry in front.

The parade will end at the Veterans Memorial Center. Participants must be picked up from this location.

The deadline to submit the parade application is Wednesday, Sept.11.

Exceptional Rodeo

9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Open to students from Columbus, Rice Consolidated and Weimar independent school districts. Modified rodeo events. Petting zoo and lunch provided. Entry through the main gate.

Eddie Orange BBQ Cook off

Award Ceremony will be held Saturday, September 14 at 4:30 p. m.

Team check-in times: Thursday, September 12 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 13 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Categories: Brisket ($125 entry fee), Chicken ($125 entry fee), Pork Spareribs ($125 entry fee), Beans ($30 entry fee) and Margarita ($10 entry fee).

Performances by: The Bandits at 5 p.m. David Lewis at 7 p.m. Shenandoah at 9 p.m. William Beckmann at 11 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 15

10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All Items are to be removed from the Founders Hall. Items left after 3 p.m. will no longer be the responsibility of the Colorado County Fair or its affiliated partners.
