Houston is moving west, toward and to Colorado County. Now is the time for Colorado County to decide what it wants. By creating a strategic plan for smart growth through a community conversation we can make that decision.
Are you interested in being a part of this conversation? One of the issues to discuss is ways to address housing. Reports from some local realtors are that affordable housing is being swallowed up by those who have moved to Colorado County, but commute to the Houston area for jobs with higher paying positions than the lower income levels more prevalent in the rural regions.
This quickly out maneuvers locals’ ability to acquire housing opportunities, which has resulted in a continual struggle keeping teachers, medical staff, and other mid-level workers. This brings up another point to discuss: what directly affects local employers’ ability to pay higher wages?
Answer: the amount of business they incur. Less business means less income, less income means less jobs to offer and lower wages, lower wages forces people to move or live with less. This and more are why it is vital to shop in your local businesses as much as possible!
Do we want walking trails along the river, consistent sidewalks through town, medians, marked crosswalks? How about a movie theatre, bowling alley, family fun center, putt-putt golf? What is the infrastructure situation? Can the current infrastructure handle growth and how much growth can it handle? What do we want and how does that happen?
