Ladycats crowned Champs at Lady Horns Classic

Ladycats crowned Champs at Lady Horns Classic

The Weimar Ladycats participated in the Schulenburg Lady Horns Volleyball Classic and only lost two games.

The Ladycats posted a 6-2 record in the tournament and were named the champions of the Bronze Bracket.

Day One

The first game of the tournament saw the Ladycats go head-to-head with the Columbus Lady Cardinals who are ranked 4th in all of 3A volleyball. This was one of the Ladycats toughest challenges but they played with the highly ranked and kept the game close.

The Lady Cards closed the game out in two sets giving the Ladycats their first loss of the tournament. The Ladycats breezed past Brazos with back-to-back 25-13 wins in two sets before going against St. Joe for their last game of Day One.

St. Joe was another good challenge for the Ladycats and had the same intensity as the game against Columbus. St. Joe ended up winning the game with scores of 25-18 and 25-17.

With two losses under their belt already the Ladycats came into Day Two with a chip on their shoulder and a determination to stack wins.

Day Two

Day Two saw a more determined Ladycats team, they settled into the excitement of the tournament perfectly and went right to work in their first game of Day Two.

They took on Hallettsville first, in the first set Hallettsville pushed the Ladycats to their limits but the Ladycats never blinked. They took the first set 26-24 and then dominated the second set 25-13 to set the tone for the day.

The Ladycats were just getting started though and in game two they smothered the Lady Raiders and closed them out in two sets. Against Cross Roads for their final game the Ladycats again dominated with scores of 25-14 and 25-12.

Now sitting with a record of 4-2 the Ladycats earned a spot in the Bronze Bracket for Day Three with a chance to call themselves champions on the line. This is an opportunity the Ladycats did not take lightly.

Day Three

Day Three is where teams can really make their mark and make a name for themselves and the Ladycats know that. They were matched up against a familiar foe to start Day Three with Shiner being the opponent.

The Ladycats jumped all over Shiner because they were not going to let a district rival stand in the way of their championship. In two sets the Ladycats punched their ticket to the championship game.

The stage was set for the Ladycats to go up against Yoakum in the Bronze Bracket Championship. Yoakum and the Ladycats with back and forth with the lead changing hands multiple times in the games.

When it came down to crunch time the Ladycats put their foot on the gas and ran away with both sets finishing the tournament with a championship victory with scores of 25-21 and 25-20.

With the tournament over the Ladycats prepare for their next set of games which is scheduled for this week, they look to build off of this tournament championship and hopefully make a deep playoff run later this year.
