Football is back in Colorado County as teams scrimmage

Football is back in Colorado County as teams scrimmage

All three teams in Colorado County finished their last football scrimmage and used it as a tune up before entering week one officially.

Columbus Cardinals The Cardinals welcomed the Sealy Tigers for their scrimmage and offered fans an exclusive first look at the new weapon in the Cardinal offense.

Grayson Rigdon is one of the most exciting additions the Cardinals made this off-season to help bolster their lineup for Adam Schobel’s senior season. This will be Rigdon’s first time playing 11-man football in his high school career but with the scheme the Cardinals use he is going to thrive.

The Cardinal offense also has two returning players in Camdon Pitchford and Braylon Fisher who will be feature pieces in the offense and continue to make plays for the Cardinals like they did last season.

Rice Raiders

The Rice Raiders look like a completely different ball club than last year.

They are meaner, tougher and stronger and it was on full display during their scrimmage against Katy Freeman. Last season the Raiders struggled in the turn over battle and had a hard time keeping pressure off of their quarterback.

This year that does not seem like it will be the case because the offensive and defensive lines look a lot stronger. The defensive line was living in Katy Freeman’s backfield and the offensive line was anchors giving Kor’Dae Johnson plenty of time to read the field.

The Raiders are ready to make some noise this season and this scrimmage was just a sign of the dominance to come.

Weimar Wildcats

The Weimar Wildcats invited Lexington to play in a scrimmage in Weimar.

Known for their ability to run the football at a high level, the Wildcats introduced a little more passing to their offense. While they ran the ball effectively, they showed that they can and will push the ball down the field through the air.

They looked sharp and executed their plays well against Lexington but we will have a better idea of these teams trajectory when they open up the season this week.

Week one starts on Friday, Aug. 30, with the all three teams playing on the road. Columbus will be traveling to Cuero, Rice will be taking on East Chambers and Weimar will be going toe-totoe with Boling.
