Sunshiny faces ... miles and miles of smiles

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

This article is dedicated to acknowledging examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus – our town.

The C.C.W.O. (Columbus Christian Women’s Organization) has a stunning history of goodwill activities in our community. One leader in the group is Alice Berry. Alice has a resume that has prepared her for leadership with elders in the community. When C.C.W.O. realized a need to reach out and serve the elderly and ill, Alice Berry stepped forward and organized the Senior Smiles. This group of dedicated, industrious, creative members began to prepare activities for T.L.C., the Oaks Skilled Nursing, and the Oaks Assisted Living facilities.

The team visits each facility one day each month. Senior Smiles provide crafts, games, musical entertainment, picnics, and dramatic presentations. The ladies interact with residents and show personal interest in each.

The ladies of the Senior Smiles are the following: Barbie Allen, Becky Horndt, Janice MacBride, Joe Rae Crofton, Linda Graessle, Marsha Priestmire, Nancy Deleon, Rebecca Marburger, Riana Jamison, Sandy Jones, Alice Berry, Skip Broskowski, and Bernice Motal.

Besides the monthly programs, the Smiles ladies bring treats and drinks for the residents. Besides their wonderful smiles, the ladies wear bright, colorful matching shirts. They strive to offer unusual and creative programs. They have even made individual servings of ice cream.

An outstanding program was the day they played “Simon Says.” Last week, Bob Stiles entertained with his songs and guitar. He plans to take Beamer, his Golden Retriever Dog, next time. There is an awesome spirit of dedication from the Senior Smiles and C.C.W.O. Please honor this group with a thank you and smiles.
