The Weimar Ladycats volleyball team put together a great season last year making it all the way to round three of the playoffs.
They scratched and clawed their way to that position and earned everything they were given last year.
The Ladycats achieved great success last season as a team and look to drive deep into the playoffs again this season. That said, out of three schools in Colorado County, the Ladycats lost the most seniors from last season to now.
The Ladycats lost six seniors, Chloe Grifaldo, Hannah Fisbeck, Delaney Turlington, Sharkia Johnson, Izzy Reeves and Ashley Treece. Now to Ladycat fans that are some bigtime names that will not be returning to the team.
The Ladycats are in more than capable hands though because they have plenty of talent returning to the team. There are five notable returners to the team, and they are Claire Pavlu, Taylor Smith, Madison Luckey, Jayia Cook and Lauren Hinze.
To Ladycat fans that is yet another list of bigtime names and they are all ready to get the season started to show what they can do. Now this group of returners have a little more defensive upside than offense but only by a hair.
Smith, Luckey and Cook patrolled the net and shut down the Rice Lady Raiders during their scrimmage at times. All three are extremely athletic and execute their jobs on the court to perfection.
As for Pavlu and Hinze, these two will be a large part of the team’s offense this season but they are ready for the challenge. Both are entering their senior seasons, so they are ready to leave a lasting impact on the volleyball team in the last ride for the Ladycats volleyball team.
The Ladycats are looking to again make the playoffs when the regular season is complete and losing six seniors makes it just a little bit harder to get there. It’s going to be challenging for the Ladycats, but it is a challenge they are more than willing to meet head-on.
The Ladycats journey to the postseason beings on Thursday, Aug. 15, when they travel to Columbus to participate int he Columbus Varsity Volleyball
