The Columbus Cardinals season on the baseball diamond was one to remember and now it gets even better with three players being named to the Blue Bell Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Team.
Kaleb Kuhn was named to the 2nd team as a pitcher while Trevor Berger and Brody Tribe were selected as honorable mentions for third and first base respectively.
These three were a major part of the roster and elevated the team to new heights. They made their way through the playoffs where they swept Great Hearts Northern Oaks in a three-game series 7-0 and 11-1.
They then went on to defeat Hondo 2-0 in round two before going the distance in round three against Tidehaven in a three-game series. The Cards won game one 4-0 then lost game two 3-0 before storming back in game three with a 10-0 win.
They fell short in the fourth round losing both their games by scores of 13-4 and 3-0 ending the Cards season earlier than they wanted. But in those eight games Berger totaled a .278 batting average while scoring seven runs.
Tribe was even more effective in the batter’s box with a .480 batting average in those eight games while scoring four runs. Kuhn took care of business on the mound racking up 44 strikeouts in three starts in the playoffs.
Kuhn also collected a few shutouts along the way and cemented his legacy in a Cardinal uniform with his stellar playoff performance. Despite not making it to the big game at the end of the season these players’ dedication to get better every single day did not go unnoticed and they earned their spots on the All-State team.
