Excitement surrounded local students as they attended Camp Invention in La Grange, thanks to the support from the Stanzel Family Foundation.
This year, five exceptional students from Schulenburg and Weimar schools were honored with the Dale Kirn Memorial Scholarship. This prestigious award recognized their outstanding achievements and enthusiasm in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). With this scholarship, these talented young minds were able to explore their passions and gain invaluable experiences at the camp. It provides them with the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills through hands-on, project-based activities, including creative problem-solving, teamwork, discovery learning, and persistence.
The Dale Kirn Memorial Scholarship was established by the Stanzel Family Foundation to honor Dale Kirn, a figure who exemplified the spirit of Camp Invention. Kirn, known for his technological prowess, designed and flew his own model airplanes before joining the Stanzel Brothers. He later worked for Victor Stanzel Co., traveling nationwide to promote Stanzel planes. Even after leaving the company, Kirn continued to advise on updates to keep the planes current. In his memory, the Stanzel Family Foundation aims to nurture similar curiosity and creativity in the next generation.
