Columbus alumni Carson Wray was one of the four athletes selected as an All-American by Golf Coaches Association of America.
Wray is a member of the University of Texas-Tyler’s golf team and the junior is already making waves on the golf course.
To be eligible for this award an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior, athletically and academically in NCAA Division I, II, III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the National Junior College Athletic Association. They must also compete in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, in Division II a stroke average under 78.0, under 79.0 in Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA and under 77.0 in NJCAA while maintaining a 3.2 GPA.
It is not an easy honor to achieve but Wray accomplished this feat because he did all of those things in addition to one other. To win this award, athletes must check all those boxes and be held in good standing with their university and of high moral character.
That statement alone makes this accomplishment so impressive because even though Wray has left Columbus to attend college, he is representing the city well.
Be on the lookout next season for Wray to make an even bigger impact in his senior season on the golf course for UT-Tyler.
