The Columbus Lady Cardinals and their coaching staff hosted a Volleyball camp at Marley Giddens Gym on Wednesday, July 24, and Thursday, July 25.
Like the football camp, this camp was open to children from 3rd to 9th grade and was an opportunity to learn and enhance their volleyball talents.
The Lady Cards volleyball team has been regarded as one of the best teams in the state for the past couple of seasons. These athletes took advantage of this opportunity to learn from the best, and the Lady Cards coaching staff was ready to teach the community volleyball game.
The camp was split into two days of action and split the athletes into two groups. The 3rd-6th graders took to the court in game one where they worked on many basic volleyball basics.
They went through several drills that simulated real-game reps and had plenty of friendly competition to get the athletes excited and keep them engaged in the camp.
The gym was filled with screams of competitive fire as well as laughter and more smiles than anyone can count. It was a very positive first day of volleyball camp in Columbus and set the stage for day two when the 7th-9th graders took the court.
Day two was a little bit more intense and advanced but the results were the same. They got a taste of a Lady Cards volleyball practice and how intense that can be but through all the hard work and sweat these young ladies were ready and excited for more.
They responded to the challenges well and, like the athletes who attended day one of the camp, they never stopped smiling. The camp was a successful one and now the Lady Cards will be looking to repeat their recent success at the varsity level when the season begins in the coming weeks.
