DAR names good citizens winners

The John Everett Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored four high school winners of the Good Cit izens Award at their meeting on Feb. 13.

The John Everett Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored four high school winners of the Good Cit izens Award at their meeting on Feb. 13.

Good Citizens Committee Chair Jana Semler had the winners introduce themselves and their guests. She then explained that the DAR Good Citizens program recognizes high school seniors who display outstanding qualit ies of dependabi l ity, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. Each school’s DAR Good Citizens winner receives a Good Citizens Certificate, graduation cord, lapel pin, $50, and a wallet recognition card from the chapter.

“Each of these bright, accomplished students spoke to the chapter about their activities and aspirations, highlighting their personal qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism,” Semler said.

The Columbus High School recipient of the Good Citizen award is Leah Harris who was accompanied by her mother Deborah Harris.

The Rice High School recipient is Zane Zbranek who was accompanied by parents Dennis and Angel Zbranek as well as his Counselor Gail Warschak. The Weimar High School recipient is Hudson Ervin who was accompanied by his parents Ryder and Lisa Ervin, and his high school representative Stacy Heger.

Bai ley Haas was the winner for Sacred Heart High School. She was accompanied by her mother Kelly Haas and her grandmother Virginia Grafe.

According to a release, any woman is eligible for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She must be 18 and descended from a man or woman who served with unfailing loyalty in the cause of American Independence.
