ALLEYTON — In a heartwarming display of solidarity and community support, Colorado County Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion and blessing of House Number 30, now the new home of Reginald and Dorothy Evans. Located in Alleyton, TX, this milestone was made possible through a collaborative effort with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Texas State Court, showcasing the power of partnership and compassion.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and gratitude as neighbors, volunteers, and representatives from both organizations gathered on July 20, 2024, to mark the occasion. The Evans family, who have eagerly awaited this day, were visibly moved by the outpouring of support from their community.
“This house is more than just a home; it’s a symbol of hope and new beginnings for us,” shared Reggie Evans, overwhelmed with emotion. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has made this dream a reality.”
The partnership between CCHFH and the CDA - Texas State Court exemplifies a shared commitment to providing affordable housing solutions and fostering a sense of belonging within communities. The CDA strive to embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equality and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all. Volunteers from local organizations and businesses dedicated over 1200 hours to construction, ensuring that every nail and board was placed with care.
Sealy Commercial Contractor Services, Inc., FBS Appliance, FSC Inc., Peters and Peters Law Firm, AL&M, Leyco, Walmart, Rice Medical Associates, Tru-Care Living, St Anthony Knights of Columbus, and Frnka AC were some of the groups and businesses who donated their time and services.
“We have been donating to Habitat builds for years. I have always been raised to help others in need and put myself last. It is not about money, recognition, or pride. It is about neighbors helping neighbors. That is what I believe what God has intended,” remarked Carolyn Ritchey, State Regent of the CDA – Texas State Court and owner of Sealy Commercial Contractor Services, Inc. This is the third house the CDA has built with CCHFH.
“I believe in the dignity of every person and the importance of stable housing,” remarked Paula Frnka, Habitat Liaison of the CDA - Texas State Court and Frnka AC owner. “Partnering with Habitat for Humanity allows us to actively live out our mission and make a tangible difference in the lives of families like the Evans.”
The blessing ceremony itself was a poignant moment, symbolizing not only the completion of a physical structure but also the beginning of a new chapter for the Evans family. Deacon John Glueck of St. Anthony Catholic Church along with Pastor Daniel Pore blessed the house, offering prayers for safety, happiness, and prosperity for its inhabitants.
“Habitat homes are built not just with bricks and mortar, but with love and community spirit,” emphasized by Shone Smallwood, local business owner, CCHFH board member and CCHFH Family Support liaison. “It’s incredible to see how the collective effort of volunteers and supporters transforms lives and neighborhoods.”
As the house was blessed and prayers were made to welcome the Evans family, the message resonated clear: when communities come together with a common purpose, incredible things happen.
The completion of House Number 30 marks not only a milestone but also a promise to build more than houses — to build futures filled with promise and opportunity. The CCHFH House Number 31 will be built in Weimar, TX. CCHFH is hiring a construction supervisor to work with volunteers and help build two homes a year.
