Hello, everyone and welcome back to The Huddle, It has been a while since we last huddled up and do I have a good topic for you guys this week.
This week I will be telling you three players, one from each school (Columbus, Rice Consolidated and Weimar) that you guys should keep an eye out for.
Now just for this week, I am going to be sticking to football because camps are opening soon, and I know we are all excited for the thrill of football season. So with the intro out of the way let’s just right into and talk some ball.
Columbus: Adam Schobel, QB, Senior Look, I know this is a chalk pick, and all eyes will be on this kid. He’s already committed to Oklahoma State to play under the guidance of Mike Gundy.
It’s a great spot for him to further his career and hopefully follow in his dad and uncle’s footsteps and crack an NFL roster one day. But before he can do that, he must play his senior season.
Over his last three seasons, Schobel has accumulated 7668 passing yards and a TD-INT ratio of 94-8. With his 100th touchdown and 10,000th passing yard within reach Schobel will be looking to make a splash in his senior year.
Rice Consolidated: Kor ‘Dae Johnson, QB, Sophomore Listen if you have read the Huddle consistently then you know that I am very high on this player.
Last season for Rice football was a rough one. There’s no denying that, but what if I told you that I think they could be a playoff team this year and it largely revolves around Johnson.
In his freshman year, he was kind of thrown to the wolves, but he never showed fear.
His cool, calm and collected demeanor for Rice helped the team through a lot during a tough season. The biggest benefit for Johnson is that Rice’s roster has only lost four players from last season.
So, Johnson will already have some familiarity with his receivers and the offensive systems. Couple that with the fact Johnson matured a little bit more physically and mentally and you have a kid ready to cash in all the receipts he collected last season.
Weimar: Zach Norrell, RB, Senior This pick is based off of pure excitement and this young man personifies excitement when it comes to sports.
Norrell was a large part of Weimar’s offense in 2023 as they were a very run orientated offense. He shouldered the load for Weimar carrying the ball 117 times for 1323 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Weimar has no reason to abandon the run with Norrell in the back field so look for him to have a fantastic senior season and put the final stamp on his legacy as a Weimar Wildcat.
Thank you all for reading the Huddle and look forward to seeing you all for the opening kickoff of Week 1.
