Sheriff ’s Report
MONDAY, APR. 1
At approximately 5:46 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 7800 block of State Highway 71, Garwood, in reference to a welfare check. After further investigation, it was determined an assault occurred. At a later date after a warrant was issued, Anthony Castaneda, age 26, of Eagle Lake, was arrested for Abandoned Child - State Jail Felony, and Aggravated Assault w/ Deadly Weapon - Felony 2. Case cleared by adult arrest.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., deputy Blaha was dispatched to FM 532 in the Oakland area in reference to a subject stealing a license plate. After further investigation, the suspect vehicle was located and later lost during a vehicle pursuit. Case active.
TUESDAY, APR. 2
At approximately 8:04 a.m., deputy Nino was dispatched to the 1700 block of CR 210 Weimar in reference to an animal attack. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case information only.
At approximately 1:11 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the Columbus Community Hospital Emergency Room in reference to a gun shot victim which occurred at County Road 152, Columbus. After further investigation, it was determined the wound was accidental and non life threatening. Case cleared.
At approximately 12:59 p.m., deputy Nino was dispatched to the 2100 block of Hwy 90A in Sheridan in reference to an unwanted subject. After further investigation, trespass warnings were served. Case cleared.
At approximately 11:39 a.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to FM 109 and Piper League Road, New Ulm in reference to livestock being struck in the roadway. After further investigation, the livestock was removed from the roadway and no owner was located. Case information only.
WEDNESDAY, APR. 3
At approximately 2:03 a.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to IH-10 WB 704 MM in Bernando in reference to a vehicle fire. The Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department made scene and put the fire out. A report was taken. Case cleared information only.
At approximately 7:52 a.m., deputy Ohl was dispatched in reference to a lost/stolen property in Garwood. After further investigation, the property was later recovered in Hempstead, Tx. Case active.
At approximately 4:36 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 5600 block of W Third St in Sheridan in reference to a theft. He contacted the complainant and obtained information for a report. The case is active.
At approximately 3:53 p.m., deputy Villanueva was dispatched to a shots fired call in the 1000 block of McCormick Road in Eagle Lake. Upon arrival it was determined that an unknown person discharged a firearm and struck the office building at Colorado County Rice Mill. Information was gathered and a report was taken. There are no current leads on this case. Information only until further leads are developed.
THURSDAY, APR. 4
At approximately 9:32 a.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to the 1100 block of A Braden Road in reference to criminal mischief. He made contact with the property owner, and it was determined to be a Burglar of Habitation. On April 25, 2024, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Quincey Kyle Janszen, age 18, of Cat Spring, Texas, who was in the custody of the Colorado County Detention Center. Case cleared by arrest.
At approximately 10:23 a.m., deputy Gorman was advised by Chief Deputy Lindemann of a theft call that occurred in Sheridan. He spoke with the complainant and information was taken. Case is active.
At approximately 8:08 a.m., deputy Ohl was dispatched to the 2100 block of Highway 90A, Sheridan, regarding a theft. After further investigation, that stolen tractor was later located and returned to its owner. Case active.
At approximately 12:51 p.m., deputy Gorman was dispatched to a residence on Schmitt Creek Road near Cat Spring in reference to found property. After further investigation, the owner of the lost property was located and property was returned. Case cleared.
At approximately 6:10 p.m., deputy Villanueva was dispatched to the 300 block of W. Waverly St, Eagle Lake, in reference to a wanted person. Through further investigation, Khiastopher Hicks, age 39, of Eagle Lake, was arrested on multiple warrants from Colorado and Austin County, and was additionally charged with Evading Arrest Detention w/ Previous Conviction - State Jail Felony and Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence w/ Intent to Impair - Felony 3. Case cleared by adult arrest.
FRIDAY, APR. 5
At approximately 8:37 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to a property on Ramsey Road near Alleyton in reference to a theft. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case inactive.
At approximately 2:37 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to the 1200 block of Old Altair Road near Eagle Lake in reference to identity theft. A report was taken. There are no suspects at this time.
At approximately 5:26 p.m., deputy Frey was dispatched to the 1000 block of FM 2437 near Sheridan in reference to a disturbance that was taking place. Upon further investigation, Steven Cox, age 41, of Sheridan was arrested for Terroristic Threat Family/Household - Misdemeanor “A”, Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence - Felony 3, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon - Felony 3. Adin Rios, age 17, of Sheridan was placed under arrest for Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence - Felony 3. Case cleared by adult arrest.
SATURDAY, APR. 6
At approximately 2:50 p.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to a business located at the 6700 block of US-90 near Sealy in reference to fraudulent purchase of diesel fuel. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case active.
At approximately 6:22 p.m., deputy Frey was dispatched to the 5000 block of W Third St in Sheridan in reference to the property owner requesting a Criminal Trespass Warning. After further investigation, one individual was issued a trespass warning. Case cleared.
MONDAY, APR. 8
At approximately 4:39 a.m., deputy Blaha was dispatched to the 1000 block of CR 153 near Columbus in reference to an abandoned vehicle. After further investigation, the vehicle was removed from the roadway by Bob’s Towing and entered into TCIC/NCIC as stored and abandoned. Case cleared.
At approximately 9:43 a.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office lobby in reference to Fraud and Identity Theft that took place at the 1400 block of Coxwell Road in Sheridan. He met with the victim and information was received and a report was taken. No suspect positively identified at this time.
TUESDAY, APR. 9
At approximately 3:09 a.m., deputy Byars assisted Eagle Lake Police Department with a shot fired call in the 100 block of West Prairie Avenue. Upon further investigation, information was obtained on scene to generate a report.
At approximately 1:19 p.m., deputy Weido was contacted by a complainant in reference to a possible burglary of a habitation at his residence on a private drive located off Reese Lane in Columbus. The complainant provided the suspect’s vehicle information and a direction of travel. The vehicle was located at the 1200 block of Kansteiner Road where it stopped. The driver, Remington Lyl Workman, age 27, of Beaumont, Texas, was arrested for Burglary of Habitation.
At approximately 9:03 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the 1000 block of Lehrmann Road near Bernardo to meet with a complainant in reference to found property. On arrival, he met with the complainant and obtained information to generate a report. The case is inactive.
Wednesday, Apr. 10 At approximately 1:27 a.m., deputy Villanueva was dispatched to the 1700 block of CR 211 in reference to an unresponsive male. After further investigation, Jose Garcia Baeza, 52, of Mexico was pronounced deceased at Columbus Community Hospital. Case active pending autopsy report.
At approximately 4:47 a.m., deputy Byars was patrolling the IH-10 Westbound rest area near Columbus. Upon further investigation, a stolen vehicle out of Fort Bend County was recovered. Case cleared.
Thursday, Apr. 11 At approximately 8:44 a.m., deputy Nino was dispatched to the 3300 block of Hwy 90 near Weimar in reference to found property. After further investigation, the owner was located and the property was released. Case cleared.
At approximately 11:38 a.m., deputy Cantu was dispatched to a business located at the 6700 block of US-90 near Sealy in reference to fraudulent purchase of diesel fuel. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case active.
At approximately 11:25 a.m., deputy Nino was dispatched to the 2400 block of Zimmerscheidt Road near New Ulm in reference to a theft. After further investigation, information was received and a report was taken. Case active.
At approximately 5:01 p.m., deputy Johnson was dispatched to a Church located at the 1100 block of Challenge St in Altair in reference to a Burglary of a Building. After an investigation a report was taken. Case is still active pending further investigation or suspects identified.
At approximately 10:04 p.m., deputy Blaha was dispatched to IH-10 near the TA truck stop in reference to a hit and run. After further investigation a report was taken. Information only.
Friday, Apr. 12 At approximately 1:25 a.m., deputy Blaha conducted a traffic stop on IH-10 EB near Columbus on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Benito Alvarado, age 30, of San Antonio was arrested for two counts of Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1/1 -B >=4G<200G - Felony 2. Case cleared by adult arrest.
At approximately 1:19 p.m., deputy Zwahr was dispatched to the Sheriff’s Office lobby in reference to a theft that occurred on Old Boars Lane. After further investigation, a suspect was issued a citation for Theft - Class “C” Misdemeanor. Case cleared.
Saturday, Apr. 13 At approximately 5:00 p.m., deputy Melendez was dispatched to the area of IH-10 Westbound near MM 694 in Columbus in reference to disorderly conduct. Deputies spoke to both parties involved and were able to obtain information to conduct an investigation. The case is active.
At approximately 6:06 p.m., deputy Litvik was dispatched to the 5500 block of West 2nd St in Sheridan in reference to an animal bite. After investigation, a citation was issued to the dog owner for Vaccination of Dogs and Cats required. Case cleared.
