Columbus Junior boys eliminated at State Tournament

The Columbus Junior All-Stars season ended this past weekend as they came up short in the State Championship.

Like the Minor baseball team, the junior team lost only three games while dominating every tournament they were in.

They collected the District and Sectional championship as they made their way to the State tournament and the excitement kicked up once they arrived. Game one saw them matched up with the Channelview Junior All-Stars where Columbus won a nailbiter by a score of 5-4.

Columbus then met up with New Braunfels in game two where Columbus lost another close game by a score of 5-2. Columbus then played Channelview for a second time in the tournament.

Columbus won the second matchup against Channelview by a score of 9-7 setting up yet another rematch against New Braunfels. New Braunfels had a win over Columbus, so they needed to beat them again to eliminate them.

Columbus needed to win both their next two games if they wanted to hoist one more championship banner. Think of it like a three-game series and Columbus was down one game to zero, in other words it was time to see what this team was made of.

Columbus has always had very talented teams but what makes them so successful at all levels in their resolve and their ability to respond to adversity extremely well. The Junior All-Star team was no different.

In game one Columbus had a chip on their shoulder and for a good reason. They knew they could have one their first meeting against New Braunfels and they were on a mission to show it.

When it was all said and done Columbus was standing victorious over New Braunfels 9-4. With the series now even at one game apiece both teams entered game three ready to break some hearts.

New Braunfels was able to break through in a big way offensively and Columbus just could not get themselves back into the game. The final score was 13-3, and Columbus’ season ended, but they gained valuable experience that they will use to their advantage when they return next year.
