Weimar VFW Auxiliary to hold “Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy” contests

The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on July 9 with seven members present. The meeting was opened according to the ritual by President Charlene Muras.

Correspondence was read by Muras about the list of Auxiliary Department Chairpersons and the Auxiliary National newsletter available online.

There are currently 15 annual members and 20 lifetime members, with 35 total members.

Charlene Muras reported that the next special project will be to collect $75 from each auxiliary for repairs at the National Home. She also reminded members to vote in the fall elections. Members are encouraged to continue to enlist new members. Please note that the following relatives of a veteran are eligible to join the Auxiliary: father, mother, husband, wife, brother, sister, son, daughter, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter. Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests will begin after school starts.

There will be raffle tickets, pins, and calendars to sell. Flag etiquette programs will be presented at schools at the beginning of the school year. There were six residents, nine veterans and two auxiliary volunteers present at the Men’s Coffee at Parkview on June 21. The Auxiliary Department President has listed “thankful and grateful for the service” as the theme this year and the National Auxiliary President has listed “From our roots to our branches, extending service to our veterans” as the theme.

For the Good of the Order, Jeanette Koenig reported that the free dance on June 15 was fun and that the band will be coming back so plan to attend the next one.

The next meeting will be on Aug. 13 at 6:00 pm at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
